We believe in a Web organized around people, not pages; where discovery is social and happens across platforms. New devices like the iPhone and iPad are completely altering the way that users interact with content. They offer tremendous opportunities to create experiences that are personal and human. Senior iOS Engineer
News.me is looking for an experienced iOS engineer to join our team and help build the future of news consumption on the iPad and iPhone. Applicants should have knowledge across both frontend and backend iOS frameworks and be prepared to own a project from start to finish, from networking and storage to view hierarchies and animation.
Your contribution:
- Help to define a multi-platform product vision for News.me
- Lead the development of the News.me iPhone and iPad applications
- Partner with the UX/design team to craft an innovative news consumption experience
Who we are looking for:
- 1+ years of iOS experience
- 4+ years of software and/or web development experience, especially mobile
- Strong technical background required, design and user experience skills a plus
- Experience with Core Data and Core Animation
- Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON
- At least one application in the App Store
Front End Developer
News.me is looking for a front end web developer to join our team and help build the future of news consumption on the web. Applicants should have extensive experience building consumer-based web and mobile sites and have a passion for creating beautiful products.
Your contribution:
- Help to define a multi-platform product vision for News.me
- Lead the development of the News.me web and mobile sites
- Partner with the UX/design team to craft an innovative news consumption experience
- Develop browser tools (extensions and bookmarklets) to fit existing patterns of discovery and consumption into a News.me workflow
Who we are looking for:
- Strong experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Knowledge of web standards and cross-browser compatibility
- Knowledge of Photoshop or Illustrator
- Python experience is a plus
- Experience creating mobile-based web sites and HTML emails is ideal
- Desire to create the next generation news reading experiences
Software Engineer (Python)
News.me is looking for an experienced software engineer to join our team and help change the way that people discover and consume news. Applicants should have a passion for both the future of news and building large-scale web services.
Your contribution:
- Help to define a multi-platform product vision for News.me
- Build APIs to help power the News.me mobile and web applications
- Scale and optimize the various back-end components: web site, apis and aggregation
- Help build new features around news consumption, such as recommendations, filtering and personalization
Who we are looking for:
- 3+ years experience developing web-based applications/sites using Python
- Experience with building large-scale/large-data web applications
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB or MySQL
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: redis, memcache, nginx, beanstalk, tornado, hadoop
- Proven experience with building REST/JSON APIs
- Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3)
- BS/MS in Computer Science preferred
Editorial Intern
News.me is looking for an editorial intern to help us think through and implement an editorial strategy and curation process for the iPhone, iPad, and web applications.
Your contribution:
- Contribute to a multi-platform product vision for News.me
- Help to define the News.me editorial processes and best practices
- Partner with the development team to implement that process
Who we are looking for:
- News junkie who is fascinated by the intersection of media and technology
- User of all things social - active presence on Twitter, Tumblr, Blog, Facebook
- Undergraduate or recent college graduate
- Digital editorial experience is a big plus
